About University Communications
Welcome to UC Davis’ strategic communications organization, responsible for integrated programs that promote and support the university's mission of teaching, research and service.
Our areas of expertise include:
Creative
We oversee the university's overall visual communications strategy and brand assets. Responsibilities include the development and management of UC Davis’ visual identity and the creation of top-level electronic, photographic and print materials for the university.
Campus communications
We keep the broader UC Davis community informed of campus news, personalities, public affairs and issues and human-interest stories. University Communications publishes the weekly Friday Update electronic newsletter, the Dateline/UC Davis online news journal and UC Davis Magazine.
Executive communications
Our executive communications program focuses on conveying Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi’s and UC Davis’ priorities, initiatives and accomplishments to students, staff, faculty and others outside the UC Davis community, with an emphasis on using social media.
Marketing
We oversee UC Davis branding and overall marketing communications strategy. This includes providing tools, guidance and products that position the university and ensure that institutional communications advance the UC Davis brand.
Media relations
Working with news media and the campus, we tell the UC Davis story about research, teaching and service achievements. Our office also manages campus media issues and offers advice, information and training to faculty, academic and administrative leaders.
Social media
We maintain social-media channels to interact with our constituents and communicate the UC Davis story. Our office develops workshops, strategies and standards that help campus communicators keep current.
Strategic services
In collaboration with other units, we provide leadership on major campus issues and initiatives, including the annual New Student Celebration, political events, the 2020 Initiative, campus budget and Shared Services Center.
Video, broadcast and multimedia communications
We manage, coordinate and, in most cases, produce video and multimedia communications, including news and marketing projects meant for broadcast, webcasting and social media.
Web development, support and analysis
Our office establishes and promotes university Web standards. We also develop Web sites, content and applications in support of the university's mission as well as maintain the home site and many other top-level sites. The campus web content management system is administered within the office.
